Why Not Choose A Low Code or No Code Option?

Maybe you’re like us. We are always looking for ways to improve how we work. Typically, our solution is a new process, a new way of doing things. It’s not long before we realize that we can add software to the new process to make it even better. This is why low code / no code software development options have increased.

First, a quick definition. No code options really do aim for just that: a user can create software without any code. Low code options also aim for using as little code as possible, but depending on the complexity of what you are building, you may have no choice and have to use some code. The goal of both of these types of tools is to be software that helps you create software with few, if any, programming skills. (See the Wikipedia pages No code development platform and Low code development platform for more info.) Some popular platforms are WordPress, QuickBase and Thunkable.

You know your business and you know what you need, so these options may work for you. Here are some questions to help you decide.

Is the data for your software simple?

Think about a staff directory. The data you need is pretty straightforward (e.g., name, contact information, office location). If you want to build an app that makes it easy to provide your company with a staff directory, then a low code / no code option can help you. If your vision for a staff directory looks more like Facebook, then a low code / no code option may be more frustrating than fruitful.

Is this for internal use only?

You want to build something that looks great and functions beautifully, but this is something you can work on over time, if the only customers for your software will be your employees. Paying customers aren’t as forgiving of software that lacks a great user interface and user experience.

Do you have the time to focus on creating software?

You have an understanding of the challenge you are facing and you have a vision for software that would overcome it. Then comes the biggest challenge we all face: where do I find the time to do this? Spending your time or your employees’ time on this can affect the other priorities in your business.

Whether you want to go with a low code / no code option, or you just aren’t sure what the right solution is, Cypress Mill Co. is happy to help you decide.
